Preclinical in vivo animal models of the large intestine face limitations due to species differences, complicating their translation to human responses. Organs-on-Chips technology addresses these challenges by providing mechanical forces to create a physiologically relevant environment, enhancing reproducibility and translatability to in vivo conditions. Various Organ-Chip models have been developed that incorporate endothelial co-culture, flow, and stretch for improved functionality. This results in greater transcriptomic similarity to human tissue compared to organoids in suspension, as confirmed by omics analysis. Learn about the development and characterization of the Colon Intestine-Chip, which enables the evaluation of biochemical, genetic, and cellular responses, thus offering valuable applications in drug development and disease modeling.
