ChemDiv, ChemBlock Combine Small Molecule Libraries

Drug discovery materials suppliers ChemDiv Inc. (San Diego) and ChemBlock International (Moscow) have formed a business alliance to unify their small molecule "historical" collections. The alliance will provide commercial access to more than 220,000 individually synthesized compounds from more than 1,000 academic research laboratories.

ChemDiv obtained exclusive worldwide rights for distribution of the joint collection in the framework of its Lead Generation and Rapid Analog Delivery programs. According to Alexandre Ivashchenko, president of ChemDiv, the company is also developing its own synthetic chemistry capabilities in collaboration with Contact Service Co. and its global research collaboration network. He expects that many of the compounds that ChemDiv provides to the industry will be synthesized on a custom contract basis in the future.

ChemBlock Int. markets a collection of compounds produced by Russian research groups and analyzed at the Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry in Moscow. Victor Semenov, president of ChemBlock International, said that the collaboration greatly expands ChemBlock's ability to market its products and capabilities in organic synthesis.

The alliance results in a joint product line that includes a wide range of additional services for lead follow up and optimization, such as express re-supply shipment, scale up of hit compounds, and custom synthesis of combinatorial libraries, templates, and building blocks for combinatorial synthesis.
