APBiotech exec to chair KuDOS board of directors
Long is deputy chairman of Amersham Pharmacia Biotech (APBiotech), a post he has held since August 2000. Prior to this, he was CEO of APBiotech from the time Amersham International's Life Science business merged with Pharmacia Biotech in the summer of 1997. Long joined Amersham International in 1990 as commercial director and went on to become managing director for the Life Science business in 1996. Long is also vice chairman of Nycomed Amersham plc.
Prior to his time at Amersham, Long held a variety of senior positions in marketing, human resources, manufacturing, and general management in the Wellcome group. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics and is a member of the Institute of Personnel & Development.

KuDOS was established in 1999 with initial funding from a group comprising Advent, Schroder Ventures and 3i plc. The company is focused in the discovery and development of specific inhibitors of enzymes involved in DNA repair. DNA repair is a process critical to the normal functioning of all cells in the body. Recent developments have greatly improved the understanding of the mechanisms used by cells to identify and repair breaks in DNA, and the potential for drugs that target DNA repair in the treatment of a range of human diseases including cancer. The company retains strong links with the academic laboratory of Stephen Jackson of the Wellcome/CRC Institute in the University of Cambridge, on whose initial work the KuDOS programmes are based.
