The metabolite selective detector for Platform ICP Pharma has been refined to meet the needs of pharmaceutical companies and CROs requiring a detector for the rapid detection and quantification of bio-transformations (of new discovery compounds).

Platform ICP Pharma is an element specific detector for reversed phase liquid chromatography that features ppt limits of quantification and linearity over 8 orders of magnitude. Drug candidates containing a suitable, naturally occurring, 'elemental label', (typically a halogen, selenium and other metals) can be selectively detected in the presence of endogenous biological material. Additionally, as a parent compound is metabolised the process of its bio-transformation(s) can be tracked and quantified.

The response factor for each elementally labelled metabolite is constant. In ICP-MS response is unaffected by the covalent structure of the analyte - unlike in Electrospray Ionisation (ESI) or Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Ionisation (APCI). Consequently 'generic elemental' standards may be used for Platform ICP Pharma quantification in contrast to the compound specific (typically deuterated) internal standards required in ESI or APCI.
