Emulate Endorses The FDA Modernization Act Of 2021

The bipartisan congressional committee has proposed the FDA Modernization Act of 2021, which aims to modernize the way therapeutics are developed in the United States. The current law mandates the use of animal testing during preclinical drug development, but the proposed amendment would broaden the scope of acceptable preclinical models, allowing researchers to use more advanced and humane methods. This change could lead to faster, more effective, and more humane therapeutic development.
Emulate endorses this act because better models lead to better therapeutics, as animal testing has limitations and often fails to predict human responses to drugs. Removing the mandate for animal testing would enable faster, more efficient, and more humane drug development. It would also decrease costs and improve decision-making throughout the drug development process. Emulate believes that using the most predictive technologies available will streamline drug development and benefit both patients and the pharmaceutical industry.
