Ambion, Inc.mored RNA technology is a patented method for producing ribonuclease resistant RNA. Its main application is for producing RNA controls and standards to be used in diagnostic tests for RNA viruses such HIV and hepatitis C virus. RNA sequences selected by the researcher or clinician are packaged in bacteriophage coat protein to produce non-infectious pseudo-bacteriophage particles. The packaged RNA is completely resistant to ribonucleases and can be stored in plasma at 4ºC for over 11 months without any degradation. Packaged RNA is extracted from the coat protein by conventional RNA isolation procedures or by incubating the particles at 70ºC for 5 minutes. The extracted RNA is completely compatible for applications using RT-PCR, NASBA, TMA or the branched DNA assay.
