Meta Biomed Accelerates Digital Transformation

CUSTOMER: A GLOBAL LEADER IN DENTAL & MEDICAL DEVICES
Founded in 1990, Meta Biomed is one of the world’s leading health and medical device manufacturers. Based in the Republic of Korea, the company specializes in dental devices and materials, sutures, synthetic bone fillers and other bio-related products. Meta Biomed’s Technology Research Center develops biocompatible medical materials, including biodegradable polymer sutures designed to help relieve pain and ensure fast healing while also allowing medical professionals to perform precise procedures with ease.
CHALLENGE: BOOST COLLABORATIVE INNOVATION AND ACCELERATE CERTIFICATIONS
Advances in surgical techniques, materials and devices, coupled with growing patient and professional expectations have put healthcare providers like Meta Biomed under increasing pressure to improve surgical recoveries and patient outcomes. To meet this challenge, Meta Biomed wanted to focus on digital transformation with a view to improving collaboration across its business, particularly its R&D activities. Scientists ran hundreds of experiments, but they lacked a clearly defined way of sharing information and knowledge between individuals and teams. They documented information in paper notebooks and lacked a centralized database to capture, store and share critical experimental results and other product information.
Because of the nature of the medical and dental products Meta Biomed developed, the company has to meet strict industry certifications and regulations before anything goes to market. They wanted to centralize their product development data and achieve a more structured way of working to boost innovation, embed quality throughout the supply chain and accelerate product certifications—especially as they sought to become a leading supplier of surgical sutures in the global market.
As they looked to the future, Meta Biomed also wanted to explore how they could provide customized medical services in a patient-centric business model. For example, they hoped to leverage simulation and virtualization technologies to determine the best sutures and materials for individual patients prior to surgery.
