6-Ckine, also known as SLC (secondary lymphoid-tissue chemokine), TCA-4 and Exodus-2, is a 111 amino acid residue CC β chemokine containing six conserved cysteines.¹ It binds to the CCR7 receptor.,^2,3 Standardized nomenclature for chemokines has recently been adopted and 6-Ckine has been named CCL21.⁴

CCL21 has demonstrated numerous biological effects. It is a chemoattractant for Th1 lymphocytes, dendritic cells,^5,6 and neonatal cord blood cells. It has also been shown to affect the trafficking of blood NK cells and lymphoid progenitors in bone marrow and the thymus⁷ and to influence lymphocyte homing in secondary lymphoid organs via induction of β2 integrin binding to the counter receptor.^{8, 9} The potential of using this chemokine for cancer immunotherapy has been discussed.

The high affinity radiolabeld ligand 6-Ckine , [¹²⁵I ]-, NEX 387, will be useful in receptor characterization studies, radioimmunoassay, and drug screening.
