Quadrupole ion traps (QITs) are an effective means to accumulate ions. The combination of QIT with time-of-flight mass spectrometry (TOFMS) offers powerful capabilities not available by QIT or TOFMS alone. This combination, QitTof™, is diagrammed in the figure below.
General benefits of QitTof™
-Capability for mass-selective ejection and for MSn analysis
- Multichannel mass detection leading to efficient collection of all ions
- In combination with photoionization (PI), the QIT can achieve significantly improved sensitivity and dynamic range because ionization of common atmospheric constituents is avoided by PI.
As a result, the trap does not fill with atmospheric ions.
