The BioPick automated colony picking system was designed to provide a walk-away solution in benchtop format. This was accomplished by adopting an original 3-dimensional approach, which allows higher capacity and more features within a given area than would be possible using conventional robotics.
The heart of the system is the picking arm, which is capable of rapid 3-dimensional movement, and consistent, pinpoint accuracy. The system's CCD camera is fixed – it's the source plate that moves, which is said to maximize fidelity of colony imaging and to permit a high degree of discrimination in colony selection.
This system features:
- Picking rate: 20,000 colonies per day
- Picks into both 96 and 384 well microplates
- Capacity: 24 microplates
- Picking accuracy: 50 micron
- Minimum colony diameter: 300 micron
- Maximum colony density: 20/cm2
- Blue/white colour discrimination
- Plate filling on line HEPA air filtration option
